The design of the house on this new development posed a challenging problem on how to deal with a steeply sloping area that was overlooked by the key rooms in the house. The design transforms the unsightly slope into a series of stunning Japanese-style terraces constructed from railway sleepers, stained black. On the upper level a water feature marks the start of a ‘blue river’ of slate that disappears at the edge & reappears below to continue its journey, ending at the water feature on the lower level. Bamboo prevents the sidewalls from being overpowering & lighting turns the terraces into a stunning feature at night.
